A new method of paying for goods and services will soon be available in Slovakia. The Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic and the Financial Administration are launching a pilot program for payments via QR codes.

The testing phase will begin in November 2025 and will last until March 2026. During this period, merchants' participation will be voluntary. However, from March 2026, a new law will introduce an obligation to allow customers to make cashless payments - either via payment cards or via QR codes.

How does payment via QR code work?

The seller generates a QR code via eKasa.

The customer scans it on their mobile phone and their bank's smart banking application with pre-filled data automatically opens. They only need to confirm the transaction and immediately receive feedback on the payment result.

The process may be slightly slower than paying by card, but the main advantage is lower costs. Merchants do not have to pay fees to card companies for QR payments.

Benefits for entrepreneurs

According to the Financial Report, merchants can save:

  • a market trader approximately €400 per year,
  • a restaurant around €3,500 per year,
  • a hotel up to €5,500 per year,
  • large chains even millions of euros.

In addition to savings, a positive impact on transparency is also expected - QR payments can limit payments without a note and improve sales control.

How ELCOM is preparing

Our company ELCOM is actively working on this topic and is preparing cash register solutions that will be ready for the introduction of QR payments:

  • RTOS cash registers (button models)
  • Android cash registers (touch models)

For both categories, QR code display will be provided via additional displays. These are easily connected via Wi-Fi - without the need for additional cables.

We offer you two models:

  1. Basic display - designed for simple QR code display.
  2. Advanced 2-in-1 model – a full-fledged payment terminal (without a printer), which, in addition to accepting card payments, also displays QR codes.

Detailed information about products and prices can be found in our price lists. We will also inform you in a timely manner about delivery and implementation options.
